Maybe someone here can give me a hand, Im currently working on a Project as the Project Lead. Ive been struggling to find a Concept artist to help us get the actual design complete and programming started. I did have an artist on board and commited, but things have fallen through. So... If anyone can help point me in the direction Im looking for?..Im not sure where to find an artist... The design is Modern day with minor differences, Vehicles/Environment/weapons and charaters would all be needed. If u would like more info on the concept itself...Let me know. Any help or direction appreciated.

Search for concept art that matches your style of game, and then email them. Forum posts are futile in finding artists.

Well thats part of my problem, Ive tried searching for just artists, Im really trying to find someone whos just graduated and wants to contribute to their portfolio...We are a small team and arent promising any returns unless we get a publisher at some point :)...so the big Artists u find on Google are out of my league

Edit: Crap -- didnt see the link to Deviant Art, will check it out.

You don't need art to start programming. You don't need art for your game's technical design to be largely complete. Designate a simple geometric shape and color for all your in-game entities and complete the modeling on that basis, then start programming. Your project will be more likely to find artists if they see that you have a (near-)complete game, even if it completely lacks art.

Artists tend to produce their contribution upfront in indie game development. Most of them have been burned by churning out a lot of concept art for a game that never got made.
Here are three good places to look for concept artists:

conceptart.org

cgsociety.org

gfxartist.com

Good luck!!!

People who just graduated aren't trying to build portfolios. They are trying to get paid jobs to pay off their schooling. I have concept artists who are in High School still and they work more than older people.

NBA2K, Madden, Maneater, Killing Floor, Sims

haha never looked at that way, Im admittingly niave in the Art industry, And to the previous poster, I didnt say I needed an artist to start coding, which has already started, I just need an artist to help us flesh out a couple of concept ideas to really polish the design up so to speak. :)

I read a story about The Sims 3 recently, and it said that the team at Maxis has developed the entire game using 2D geometric figures to represent every sort of in-game entity, and the gameplay was solid and fun. Then they started developing the 3D engine.

Art is obviously necessary and powerful, but don't let it be a roadblock to development progress. [smile]

Well said, Oluseyi!!! :)
