MMO Concept help
Just a question I guess, a few ppl and myself obviously have been working on the base concept for a commercially viable MMO. Now none of us have resources to fully Develop one or publish one obviously. So I figured somewhere like this might be able to give me suggestions ?... Our plan at this point is with the VERY small team we have is to build a very small and very low quality working model of certain aspects of the game and see if we can pique a developers intrest with it. But my team is new to this and the project started un-intentionally.... so ...any suggestions or Ideas ?

Well it sounds like you're more or less on the right track, starting with small sub-projects, going step by step and getting some playable prototype code together is a good way to start.
However, forget about the 'piquing a developer's interest' part. The chances of a small, unheard of team getting a funding for MMORPG from a publisher on the strength of a few small gameplay demos is negligable, as are the chances of getting an existing development studio to take it on for you. The only realistic way the game will get made is if your team are prepared to do it yourselves.
Seriously ?..If thats the case I might as well scrap it, Cuz none of us have 5 years of spare time to dedicate to fully developing it..We probably could, but just dont have that kind of time.

Make time. Or don't. Or compromise; scale back your visions to something that you can achieve in a more reasonable time frame.
If it's not worth it to you to make the effort to realise your dreams, it almost certainly isn't worth it to anyone else either.
Well the concept we are working on is commercially viable, and Ideally would be done in the Unreal3 engine, which you would need to get from Epic. I wouldnt want to do the concept injustice so to speak by doing a inferior development of it just to have it developed.
if that makes sense :P

I would think exactly as much time would have to be invested in running it even if it magically materialized in finished form tomorrow. An MMO is a business, after all. I suspect all you really want is for your idea to be made so you can play it.
Definitely scale back you vision to something you can accomplish in a reasonable amount of time. If your unsure of your current ability choose a project that can get results back, good or bad, in a reasonable amount of time. You can still make a multilayer online game though, just remember not every MMO has to be a bloated hack and slash rpg wow clone

Sure, but you have to convince a publisher of that. It's very hard to convince a publisher to invest millions of dollars and several years into developing your idea if you aren't prepared to invest the time and effort into creating at least a playable prototype.

It makes sense, but it's not sensible. Any implementation is better than none; you can always use the first incarnation to establish a user base and reputation, and then go for the WoW-beater with version 2. And even if it never takes off as a product in it's own right, it might be enough to get the funding you need to do it properly, or it might get you and/or your team jobs in the industry that will put you in a position to pitch the concept formally. Who knows?
Ohh I think I see what you mean, I misunderstood you Sandman..heheh
So If we develop a workable demo so to speak..you can pitch that to a publisher rather than go straight to a development firm?...
I have to admit , I am unfamiliar with how things work anymore, Im a huge gamer , just never been on the other side of the coin, but We've already put some good time into the concept , and just dont want to pursue something that isnt worth pursuing.
I appreciate the help and insight.

Yes and No, on the Concept team at this point, I am just the Concept man, I am no programmer, Ive got other ppl involved for that.
But to be honest, Smaller MMO develepment studios are notoriously unsuccessful. Usually releasing their Flagship Concept and failing horribly, I would LOVE to see my small team develop a Demo and hand it off to a reputable studio who can REALLY use their talents to polish it and correct the unforseen problems in our concept.
Lets face it, you only know about said problems after developing 1 or 2 Larger games. The smaller teams always fail due to said problems.
If that made Sense? ..lol.
