Turn-based RPG idea: Labyrinth

The idea is quite simple. You start off in a randomly generated maze, and try to reach the end. You can't actually see the structure of the whole maze at the start. You may have a vision of 1 or 2 (see 1 or 2 squares around you.) To explore the maze, you move up, down, left, or right. After entering a tile, you may encounter a monster, in which case a battle begins (generic RPG style battle, like FF1.) You may also find equipment and other items. There are also stores hidden in the maze, and NPC's that give you quests (e.g. go to this place on the map to find the quest item.) Does this have potential?

Yes, it does. Roguelikes have existed for decades, you know, and are quite popular. Although its not "high sales" kind of popular.

I thought the same thing. Such games are fairly easy to come by, and if you like that sort of thing, then they're exactly the sort of thing you'll like.

I'm of the opinion that a simple command queue and some basic AI, combined with a real-time system of "ticks" for turns would make for a truly awesome multiplayer roguelike.

But for single player, there are lots of great ideas already out there, and I'm sure you could bring your own interesting and worthwhile contributions to the genre.

Actually, while they don't sell very well in the U.S. they're quite popular overseas. The Fushigi no Dungeon/Mysterious Dungeon series is easily the most popular, but there are others (such as Azure Dreams)
