Howdy Everyone, I am a software developer and I've come up with a checkers game variant that I've made into a website. Shortly, I will be at the point where I want to present my creation to the public and hopefully make some small profits from it. I was wondering what legal steps I need to do to protect my new game idea and website. Thanks everyone!
I'd suggest doing some homework.

Read the articles, columns, and whitepapers at IGDA.

Read Tom Sloper's Sloperama.

Read Tom Buscaglia's blog.

And for some of the more general start-up legal issues, check out Under Development.

Depending on what you plan on doing with your work, you may want to consult a lawyer with experience in intellectual property law. If you plan on actually selling this product, you may also want to consult an accountant for how that income will be taxed and how to best organize your business.

Best,
Mona
