Hi, its been my dream for many years to work in the video game industry and i had planned on going to Full Sail in 2-4 years and i just really want to hear from someone who works as an artist for a big name company and just how it is to be a game artist and what exactly you do in a whole day of work..... Sincerely -Hjörtur Freyr Jónsson
I don't work for a big company, but I do create art for different game related products. Most of my day is spent developing code, but every now and again, I have the opportunity to work inside Maya creating something specific for one of the projects that I'm working on.

so what art do you create?
lol

i have this similar problem, im trying to hone my drawing skills (im also waiting for my intuos3 graphics tablet to arrive :) ) so i can do some kind of game art. however, i cannot find job descriptions of many game art positions

can anyone help?
(or point me in the right direction of getting a clue :-D )
In a regular day of work a game artist makes art. :)
I'm not sure what you are expecting to hear, can you clarify the question a little? The term game "artist" is also too vague. A concept artist, character artist, technical artist, effects artist, environmental artist, and a-whole-bunch-of-other-types-of-artist are not going to have the same day-to-day routine. An art director has a completely different job from all of them.

If you're wondering "What skills do I need to get a job as an artist?" well it's really not very complicated:

1) Make pretty stuff
2) Don't be a jerk and/or slacker

Although from the way you asked the question I suppose the first step is just to figure out what type of art you want to specialize in and learn how to do it, then do it a lot so you can complete requirement 1.

aha!
thats what i was trying to say

i know a concept artist draws up the concepts that the team is shooting for, but thats about all i know (out of that list you made)

if i had more insight i could decide which seems best for me
if you could, just give me a link to a good sight with descriptions of those jobs, i dont want to make you type out all the descriptions.

so i want to know what kind of artists there are on a game design team basically

i think i could just goodle their job descrips

i think i've made things easier to understand
