I'mmmmmm baaaccckkkkk
I''m back from my little Direct3D thing. I spent about a week learning, studying, and writing about Direct3D. Well here is how much I liked it: OpenGL all the way baby! Direct3D is powerful, good, and maybe better than OpenGL. But it is a pain to set up, and code. I mean, I spent 2 hours today (on and off) trying to texture and interpolate colors on the same primitive. I love the ease of OpenGL, and I am glad to say, that I will be sticking with it for awhile.
Also, since I love to write, I think I am going to start a series of Game Programming tutorials *ALL* in OpenGL. Now, these tutorials are not going to get you started on OpenGL, they will assume some basic OpenGL knowledge (I will be telling the reader at the beginning of the article to go read NeHe''s tutorials from #-#, for the knowledge that will be required for that specific tutorial). I will probably start with a simple 2D game (pong, tetris, snake, breakout, etc...), and then move on to doing a 2D platformer, then a few tutorials purely on a certain effect that is common in games, then move on to the 3D game programming!
I need some feedback on some of the above idea. Thanks a lot.

A lot of people have been asking questions about doing 2D in games, I thought about doing it, but I''m too lazy and hate to write thousands of lines of HTML, so I decided not to
. Anyway, people should like that.

why write html when you could use a WYSIWYG editor.
you can get about 30 different free ones. i prefer the extra customizability of raw HTML but WYSIWYG would help you out i think.
"Those who want it, but can''''t get it, will complain about it.

Ummm... Ok, riiiiiiight.
I don''t believe I said a word about HTML or a WYSIWYG editor, but thanks anyway. Right now, I am more in need of feedback on my idea, than the actual process of carrying it out.

If you make those tutorials in OpenGL, I''ll definitely check em out. I have a tough time when it comes to Direct3D.
Yeah, I will be doing them in OpenGL. I will start working on the games right now, but I won''t be able to write the tutorial for a while, as my computer finally ticked me off to the point where I am selling it. So I am going to be without MY own computer for about 2 months, but I can still work on the games for the tutorials every now and then. And if there are any sprite artists out there, I could really use some help.
And a quick note on Direct3D, it is *really* powerful, just not for me.

The more good tutorials on the net, the better. All I could ask is not to show off. In other words, make the tutorials
1. simple
2. short
and 3. to the point
I''ve been looking for tutorials on all sorts of things lately and the most frustrating thing is to see dozens of lines of extra code that aren''t related to what you are trying to learn.
hehe, just a personal little annoyance.
Good luck!

Well, I am going to start the tutorials off simple, but they will move at a fast pace. I will direct the reader to NeHe''s site for the OGL basics, and devote all of my tutorials to Games, and game-related effects (cool, fast, flexible particle engines, billboarding, total games, etc...). I can''t wait to get started!

Thanks for wanting to share knowledge. We need more people like you around.
You wouldn''t mind also showing examples of pure OpenGL programs, as opposed to those using GLUT and other bundling APIs, or perhaps showing the pure OpenGL stuff and including snibbets of code for using those other APIs? It might help more programmers, as oppose to those that tend to concentrate on a specific API such as GLUT.
