Game Designers Needed

Gamedev.net folk, Do not worry this is not some sketchy classified ad. I am actually not a game developer. I'm a fiction writer trying to develop a piece that revolves around the life of a videogame designer. I'm very concerned with depicting that world accurately: the lingo, the lifestyle, the atmosphere, the hours, etc. Therefore, I am reaching out to interview people who are working in the field--especially those who have worked at mid-size to large studios like Bungie, Kaos, or Rockstar. If you have worked at a small-to-midsize studio that merged with a larger one, that's even better. I am not looking for names, or dates, or any specifics about any project that you are currently working on--just generalizations. So you don't have to worry about me digging for safely guarded secrets or incriminating details. All I would require from you is a 10-15 phone interview, wherein I just ask you some questions and we chat informally. Aside from this project, I am a reputable journalist who has written extensively on the gaming industry. Here's a couple of links to stories that I have written in case you'd like to check my credentials: http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20054060,00.html http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,1102761,00.html This is an independent project. I have, as yet, no representation, funding, or publishing in place. So, honestly, I'm offering virtually nothing in return for your assistance other than the eternal gratitude of one creative person to another. If you have the time to help me, I would greatly appreciate it. You can reach me at ndrumming@nyc.rr.com Thank you for your time.

Are you looking for a team to join or for someone to join your team? Post about it here. Note: This forum is to help hobbyists and independent game developers connect.

The OP's request has nothing to do with forming a game development team, he is looking for people to interview.

Hi Mr. Rumming (may I call you ND?),
I think you can get a lot of that information by simply reading. Writers surely do a lot of that. Read the FAQs here and on IGDA.org and on gamecareerguide.com and on my site. You should get a few issues of Game Developer magazine too. Best if you don't phone anyone to pump them for color until after you've done your homework.
Good luck.

Tom,

Absolutely, I've already been digging through your site. It's been very helpful, and I'm reading a ton of other material as well--online and off. But for me, it's not going to take one approach or the other, nor one ahead of the other. There are some nuances that I will only glean from speaking to folks directly. And I'm pursuing both paths simultaneously.
