any tutorials how to draw semi-top view character?
guys!! where to find tutorial on drawing semi-top view characters.. not full top viw and not full front view.. thanks for any infos..
I suppose you mean something similar to the image at the right? In any case, a tutorial won't give you artistic talent. Practice does. There is a reason why most of the programmers on these forums have "programmer's" (read: bad) art in their games -- they lack knowledge of shape, light, composition, and other skills required to create good art. And, while these skills can be achieved through practice, most of us would rather spend time coding rather than training our artistic experience.
My point is, that no tutorial will enable you to create decent semi-top view characters. There are however guides that will point you in the right direction. This one, for example.
I will give you a nice alternative, though. The Charas Project would be ideal for your needs, I believe. It generates characters for you, using pre-made body parts. There are a lot of ways to get awful characters using it, but the opposite is also possible.
In addition to the Charas Project, there are lots of free art if you just search thoroughly. I believe there is a sticky or two on that subject here on GameDev. There are also ripped sprites. However, if you like ripped sprites, only use them while developing the game, on your own computer, to avoid copyright issues.
Finally, if you're really hell-bent on creating your own stuff, you could always google some screenshots of old retro retro RPGs, zoom in to the pixel level and try to make imitate the style and find out where to place the shadows etc.
That method is more difficult and time consuming, but it is a possibility.
no! not that kind of drawings.. i want a graphics like DOTA.. u know,,dota is 3d,, but i like to draw the heroes in that view(semi-top view)..
thanks...
thanks...
Well, the problem is that that is just 3d. You won't find a guide on drawing them in 2d. If you plan to use this for a game or something, let me tell you now its highly impractical compared to just using 3d.
Well, then it's a matter of creating 3D models and positioning the camera correctly in your program. Personally, I find creating 3D graphics much harder than just regular pixelling.
You should look into some free modeling packages, such as Blender, and Wings 3D. There is also the cheap (but not free) Milkshape, which is a nice program too.
There are lots of tutorials on 3D modeling, such as this one. A quick google for "3D modeling tutorial" returns many results.
I'm sure there are members on this site who know more than me about this subject.
