Percentage paid to (music ) artists
Hi.
A short question, what is the usual percentage of profits of a small indy game that is payed to a music artist? I I am talking about a fairly simple 2D game and I am not going to make a big profit out of it. I even won't make any profit out of it. I want to 'buy' the rights from a certain artis't's music track and use the track into the game. If I make a profit out of it, and If the artist wants to see money, what percentage should I pay from the profits to the artist? Or should I buy the track as a whole and pay a fixed amount? Or, even, try to talk the artist to convince him/her that the 'exposure' of the music in a game is worth value in itself.

Marm,
It would be very unusual to give a musician a piece of the royalty pie.
Exception: when the game is based on the musician's work or name, or when the musician's work is a significant "bullet point" on the game's advertising campaign.
Normally a musician is paid a flat amount, and the work is deemed "work for hire."
