Has this been done?
I will add more later, but this is the main plot/storyline in short.
This game would be for console..For many reasons.
You are a 35 year old man, who works for a research agency. While sitting at home a sudden chain of events occur and all electrical equipement in the city/world is destroyed. You then travel to work and while at work your office is attacked..A few more "Heroic" choices..As you try to attack the thing that is attacking you..You then blank out and wake up in a prison. Only to realize the only way to survive is to escape.
Basically you are humans trapped in a prison. The people who captured you, have not yet shown you who they are. You have to survive without the aid of electrical equipment. Live as the natives did many years ago.
I will add more if you feel it is going somewhere.
I don't think it's been done in a game, however... in the movie "Escape from L.A." starring god-forbid-us Kurt Russel, the main character ends up doing something that either shuts down or destroys like, most if not al the world's electrical equipment... they mention in the movie something like, "if you press that button, you'd push us back 500 years - back to the middle ages". With "us" referring to technology or something. Stupid movie really, reminds me a bit of a great game series on the PlayStation consoles.
I suppose there are tiny smiilarities, but no, I don't think it's been done before.

Things to think about:
*Is there a significance with the age and gender? Is there some kind of feeling or message you want to get across with it?
*Has the main character working for a research agency any significance to the story? Does it define the character in a certain way? Has his profession given him knowledge that is important to the story or useful during the game? Caan the knowledge be applied for gameplay aspects?
*Are you certain this is what you want? Prison, unknown enemies, no electricity?
Once you got that straight with yourself, I have three words for you: "Go for it!"

Sounds like it would be a novel new idea. Similar along the lines of what tomb raider did for the action adventure genre. You do realize that its practically impossible for users to develop for a console though correct? Long story short you need a development kit, which costs anywhere from $10000 to $100000 a piece, and not every blo-joe with big bucks can get one. You need a track record of successfully published games, industry contacts, etc. So I would say go for your idea, it sounds very interesting, but stick with PC. Actually XNA - PC/XBOX360 is a possibility I suppose, but understand you wont be able to sell your game on the xbox, at least not at the present time (hoping they will make it possible in the future though). Every other console is a no-go.
Thank you for your responses.
I understand xbox will not buy my idea at the present time :P. I guess it could work on pc. Although I am no programmer, I would need some people to produce the game, which I would have to find. If anyone knows anybody tell me please :D/ For now it's in the writting stage, but once I have a teame I will see what happens.. Anyways thank you again :D

are you capable of producing artwork for the game then?
because if you are unable to do so, you will run into some serious trouble finding a team to make the game, as there are plenty of "ideas people" out there that are also capable of coding and/or creating artwork for games that they themselves have come up with.
So if you want this game to materialise I'd suggest looking into learning how to code, unless you're a very adept computer artist, in which case, it would still be advantageous to learn how to code.

I happen to be pretty good at drawing on the computer and freehand. So I guess you could say, I am also an artist. I also know a considerable amount of VB and I am learning JAVA..So you think that could helo?

Every little bit helps.

well, being able to produce some artwork is definitely a good thing, and knowing some programming always helps, whether you end up coding or not, it's good to understand what's achievable with given resources and time, rather than expecting the source engine from the two guys you're bribing with pizza to do some of the major programming for your game.
So would you like to make the game as a 2D or 3D game?
if the latter I'd download blender or some other free/extremely cheap modeling software, and look for some decent guides online (Wiki has some quite strong Blender ones I believe)
As for programming, you may prefer to do it in Java, now would you do it as an applet or an application?
