8600gt sli or 8600gts
The question is really what games you want to play, at what resolutions, with what settings for things like AA and AF? Once you tell us that we can help you choose the best option. Also, why do you feel the need to upgrade? Is there a particular game or app that you can't run as well as you'd like?

Stay away from any 64-bit graphics card, unless you're planning on playing in 640x480 resolution. They have poor fill rate. In fact, I would do what it takes to stay away from 128-bit cards, like the 8600, as well. I'd take a 320 MB 8800 GTS over any 8600 -- or even 8600 SLI. Actually, that's where I would say the sweet spot is right now.
Of course, in a few months, we'll see cards with DX10.1 support, and a year from now we might see cards with DX11 support, so I would stick with what you have now until you actually feel that it's painful, and save up for a nice upgrade at that point.

enum Bool { True, False, FileNotFound };
You could get one of these instead. Not sure when they will actually be available though.
I feel as though I need an upgrade because of future games for the most part such as Crysis. I have a brand new widescreen lcd monitor so I will want to run games at either 1440x900 or 1650x1080. AA and AF at least the lowest setting would be nice as well. With my current setup I can run the Crysis at medium settings with a good amount of lag, but at low it runs fine. With AA on it's unplayable. I sort of makes the graphics look crappy when there is no AA.
edit: I might take a peak at that 8800gt

I recommend the 8800 GT then. The 8600 GTs in SLI aren't going to buy you enough headroom and neither is the 8600 GTS. An 8800 GT will most likely do fine for you. Or maybe two 8800 GTs in SLI....

Yeah, it seems like everybody's talking about the new 8800GT. It's supposed to be an amazing card, and has already one several awards. If I were you, this is the card I would buy - but I would wait at least a few weeks for the price to settle down.
8800GT is faster than the 8800GTS and cheaper at the same time. While this seems weird at first, it isn't because 8800GT uses 65nm proccess instead of 80nm. Its performance is actually closer to 8800GTX! The only drawback i see is that the memory-core interface is 256-bit instead of 384, but this doesn't seem to be a bottleneck. http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/10/29/geforce_8800_gt/
This card has quite possibly the best value for money i 've ever seen for a GPU!

I read on another forum that the reason that the gt appears to be better than the gts is that the gts is being revamped. Can anyone confirm this?
