32bit TGA

What graphics packages do you people you to create 32bit TGAs (with alpha-layer). I currently use The GIMP on a friends Linux box, but that''s rather a hassle and makes tweaking a pain in the ...bum. I use PhotoShop 5 but it won''t let me save images with transparency as anything other than PSD. It has a (plugin?) exporter for transparent GIF. Is there a plugin exporter for TGA? I CAN save 32bit TGAs, but not images if transparency. If I try to open the files using NeHe''s TGA loader, nothing happens --invisible textures. I''d at least expect noise-like stuff, but nothing happens at all --all alpha seems to be 0. Anyways: any tips would be appreciated. Thanx in advance ThamasTah
actually photoshop will do this. Im sure this will work in any version of photoshop, just add an alpha channel (its on the same palette as layers), and edit that as the transparency.

Ill assume youre proficient enough with photoshop to create an alpha channel, but if not, feel free to email me (juha@pacbell.net)

I am indded proficient enough with PhotoShop to create alpoha-layers. It''s just that if I Save As when my picture has multiple layers or a transparent background, I can only select "Photshop Document (*.*)" from the combobox.
What version do you use?
Select "Save a Copy..." from the file menu or you could select "Flatten Image" from the Layer menu, which will combine all the layers into one, and then select "Save As..."

I have version 5.5

Another thing you should do. Select you alpha layer and check to make sure the color is white. that way its transparent. then when you load it into OpenGL you can do some cool effects with it.
btw gimp is also available on windows

I would recommend the Gimp actually, the windows version is a little buggy, but nothing major, and it''s more powerfull than PhotoShop IMHO. Plus it''s free...
You can find it on tucows.
Thanks for all the replies. I figured it out by now: I was mistaking layers for channels (never used channels before )
