Quote: if you just want to be able to easily move from your dorm to home a few times a year would be a small LCD screen, a small case, and build a wire harness and get something you can easily pack everything into and carry with you. It will run you $1000 or so for similar specs to your laptop, give you a nicer keyboard and mouse to work with, and more room to upgrade.

This is pretty much what I did when I needed a computer I could move between home and uni easily (I was getting to and from home on the train so easy of carrying was vital). So I got myself a Shuttle case and an LCD screen and appropriate bags for carrying them around, this worked great.
The main reason I want a laptop is for the simple fact my room I have my computer in get really really hot in the summer and my processor temp gets really high. My room is not ACed and the one window being open does not do shit when it is 90 and humid out. With a Laptop I will be able to move it into the rooms where there is AC. This is the main reason for me wanting a laptop, I mean it will be nice to be able to take it with me to other places but that is not a requirment.

Why not just get a desktop with a good cooling system?
----------------------------My site: www.sudoexec.net
Becuase the cooling system will onyl cool my computer, i don't liek 90+ humid weather either. The shuttle box looks like a much better idea, i think i willget one of those. I have price out a similair spec with about same processor(shuttle has INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6600 2.4GHZ 1066MHZ 4MB LGA775 and the sager has AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 4200+ Dual-Core Processor, whihc one is better?), much better video card(GEFORCE 8800 GTS 640MB DDR3 PCI-E compared to the Nvidia GeForce GO 7950 GTX PCI-Express 16X Graphics with 512MB DDR3 Video Memory) and the thing i love about this is i can get 2 NEC ACCUSYNC LCD72VX 17" LCD BLACK moniters which will bet great for some game and should help alot for programming. Here are the specs for the shuttle computer:

WINDOWS VISTA ULTIMATE 64 BIT
INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6600 2.40GHZ 1066MHZ 4MB LGA775
2GB (2X1GB) PC2-5300 667MHZ DDR2 NON-ECC KIT
250GB Serial ATA 7200RPM 8MB Buffer HDD
GEFORCE 8800 GTS 640MB DDR3 PCI-E
18X18 DVD+-RW Dual Layer
ONBOARD 10/100/1000 ETHERNET

Price 2374

think this is the best deal i can get on this type of computer?

I have decided to get 2 19' LCD from newegg, think about http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001088

You should be able to get quite a bit more hard drive space then that. I think the sweet spot for hard drives is up to 320GB or so. And the Core 2 Duos currently smoke anything AMD can put out.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a portable AC unit? :-)

I find that, with laptops, you really don't want the 15 pound beasts. I had them for years, and my arms were always hurting. Now I have a 4 pound 14" screen, and am happy enough. (GeForce 7400 Go -- you can play games on it, in low resolution)

If you just need to move the computer occasionally, get one of those carrying straps with handles, and a lightweight LCD display.

Last, we've had a couple of Sagers at work, and their reliability is poor, and their customer service is poor. Our Dells last longer, and the customer service is better. We also have had reasonable luck with Sonys, and no luck with Toshibas or HPs.

I have tried that before and the one i bought did shit. I think i am going to get a shuttle computer anyways, small and portable and for 2300 i can get a top of the line hardware(as posted above)
