What do you need it for?

for recording and mixing and all that.
M-Audio Audiophile 2496.

Though check that the 'distorted sound' you're getting isn't just from your speakers, or background processes using up too much CPU, or dropouts from a slow hard disk, etc.
I agree with Kylotan, check on the sound card before replacing it. Are you getting this distorted sound all of the time? Is it happening with both speakers and head phones? What about range (high, mid or low) or at varying volume settings. Also try playing different kinds of audio, in windows media and the DAW program you have. Try and figure out what is causing the distorted sound, because it may not be the card.

Hope that helps,

It was giving me a problem when i was recording. It was so statiky (spelling) that i couldnt tell what the sound was. and it was with both speakers and headphones. It did that a couple times bc i recorded it over and over again and it kept doin it. but when i listened to something else it was fine. I think its time i change my soundcard bc my computer is getting old. i beleive its 5yrs old. ill check out that audiophile though.. thanks.
