Mecha MMORPG - Possible? Interested?

A lot of people seem to like the idea, but I have yet to see it executed right. Theres stuff like ATC Ray Crash and RF Online, but theres no real satisfying mecha game in a persistent world. I have a lot of the game mechanic elements worked out, but I don't have a story or anything. I'd like to get some feedback on this idea, maybe even get a team together to plan out the rest of the concept. I think it could be done, but I really need a team. Here's some basic points that I've been considering:

-Players have human avatars, congregate on planets and stations
-Mecha are stored in hangars while players are in non-combat zones
-Players enter mecha when in combat zones
-Mecha are "stock" when bought, but can be customized for both aesthetics and combat
-The "best" parts are achieved by upgrading, not by making your mecha look like every other end-game player
-Game world is divided into different sectors (zones) and planets
-Conquest element allows a faction to conquer a zone, get benefits like mining rights
-Crafting professions like mechanic, aesthetic design, diplomacy, espionage
-Enough non-mecha activities to prevent monotony (multi-player minigames, stuff you don't normally see in an MMORPG)
Sounds like a better space cowboy xD

I would create multiple types of mech's to break the game up into specialties for player roles (like classes in ur standard fantasy) Maybe you have your normal Biped chicken-walker style mechs, as well as some rolling almost tank like. Maybe even some fast hovering light ones, and of course your "healing class" a repair mech =) This idea seems very doable as long as you dont get too far ahead of yourself in the idea's I dont think it would be advisable to make it real time aiming, more RPG style but with mechs. Hitting someone in 200 ping lag aint fun D:

If you can with your trusty gamecube or your friends take a look at a game called custom robo kinda the same theme just for some ideas.

Hey i proposed a new mmorpg in this thread

Your mmorpg would be inside my mmorpg as a player run world – your world. One thing you will not need is mini-games to break up the monotony because they can just leave to a different world. If you concentrate on mechs and their models and how they behave and modify the server that uses my mmorpg browser protocol this could work! And you would only put a half or a third of effort into it!

The only problem, just like yours i have not started.

I'm not interested in building a world in someone else's game, I'm talking about fleshing out the concept. Development is at least a year away, if I even get enough people together to work on the details. I'm looking for people with creative ideas to build a world and mythos to back the general idea. At this point, I need artists, modelers, and people with gameplay ideas.
