Note that most virtualization solutions may not have the performance you'd want for audio and 3D graphics, if you're into games (and sometimes not even for movie playback).

Indeed. There's been some talk about VMWare Fusion beta's much improved 3D in Windows on OS X. I've been searching to see if there's anything like ESX Server for desktop users, a sort of minimal HAL and virtualization layer so you obtain near-native performance (and all your OSes are guests).
