edit: holy cow Qitsune, you're quick on the draw.

You might call it a day when I hung out on the forums more than was good for me *blush*

I have to agree with Avatar God, tablets are useful, and many (most) concept artists use them. However, I think they are a bit of a trap to beginning draftmen (draftwomen too) in that they are a crutch and an obstacle at the same time. Yes they allow you to do nice stuff, like colorpick from pictures, resize your stuff and undo at will, but the time you spend struggling with how different it is from paper and understanding Photoshop, you are not learning to draw.

I'm a bit old fashioned, but I think draftmanship (draftwomanship?) comes before any medium-related skill when it comes down to conceptart.

So get a small sketchbook, carry it everywhere and draw.

ps: I'm not sure if it's bad form to pimp another forum but these threads might just be exactly what you need:

Thanks for the comments guys. The tablets do look quite fun, but I think I will stick with paper for the short term, and invest in a ruler! :)

I really like the style. I'll favor stylistic graphics over bleeding-edge technology any day. I bookmarked your blog so I can check out your progress.

Hell yeah... IF it's a AAA title. ;-) On the other hand, it's not always practical for indie titles. A good example of this would be Darwinia which looked cool and Tron-ish, but didn't require anything too advanced.
