FL Studio tutorial and help thread
I just joined and already saw a couple of posts regarding FL Studio on how to use it.
So i thought i'll just make a thread with a basic tutorial and if you have any further questions, reply to this thread and i will help in every sorta way i can.
I'll be using the latest version of FL Studio wich is. 'FL Studio 7 XXL Edition' (Later addressed as FL) wich i received from my record label.
I will cover the following aspects of FL Studio:
• The Browser
• The Step Sequencer
• The Pianoroll
• The Playlist
The Browser:
In the browser you have a collection of the standard sounds and effects that come with FL. (After I had installed FL I removed all of the sounds wich come with FL, because they sounded like crap to me, and inserted my own sounds. I suggest you first experiment with the standard sounds before doing the same as me.)
If you cant see the browser press ‘F8’ and the browser will pop up.
This is your basic sound explorer in FL, select a folder and the contents of that folder appear. Select a .wav file and you will hear the sound it makes.
There is a folder in this browser wich is called Current Project this folder holds all the information about the project you are currently working on.
The Step Sequencer:
This is a pattern based sequencer, here you can create your drums.
In the Upper-left corner of the Step Sequencer you see a button wich standard says ‘--‘ Here you can set the number of beats in this pattern.
In the center of the Step sequencer, you will find all the channels you have added.
The little rectangles you see after the channels are the steps in that pattern. Turn them on or off to create a certain loop.
Picture #1 is an example of a drum loop for a standard hip-hop song.

The Piano Roll:
Open the piano roll by right-clicking the desired channel (wich you want to create a melody in.) and select piano roll.
Here you can create your melody.
Press the piano notes to hear it’s sound. And draw in the notes you wish to here at wich certain time.
Picture #2 is an example of a melody created inside the piano roll.

If you have any further questions regarding FL, just reply in this thread.

hey, your stuff really helps alot. but i have a question about: How do you connect the beats?.....for example, i have like 2-3 Pat and how do i connect them all, so it can play all 3 Pat from 1-2-3. So Pat #2 can just play right after Pat #1 is finish.? if you can help, i will really appreciate it a lot. THANK YOU

This is to be done in the playlist:
you see part 4: here you need to draw in your patterns in the order you want to hear them.
when done
select song next to the play button, and press play to hear your complete song.
if you still dont understand tell me and ill explain it in a different way.

#8 lets you zoom the height of the automation part (nmbr 9) in and out
#7 lets you choose what kinda clips you want to see (this is something for more advanced users but ill try to explain)
when you create an automation of for example the volume of a piano you can put it in there to select the range of effect of the automation
you can also put other stuff in there like step editing sequences at part 7 you can choose wich kinda clips you want to see in there
