It might just be your graphics card. I have a AMD tb 1000, 196mb ram, 32mb Hercules 2 Prophet, and a 30gb HDD, and my OGL programs (and NeHes'') are all slow. Even though I have seen them go faster, on my mom''s far inferior computer.

Is OpenGl really so slow?
All nVidia cards should be able to run the earlier half of Nehe''s tutorials fairly well.

I have already downloaded new drivers, but they don''t run on my card. The card is from VideoExcel and I can''t find their hompage.
I''m loading a MilkShape model exported from HalfLife and displaying it. For reflectiosnI''m using the stencil buffer, and that is really slow (always unplayable; even in 320x240).
It is strange that OpenGL gets even slower if I''m overclocking the card with Power Strip.

What color depth are you using? Like Zed Zeek said, some (or all?) nVidia cards use the stencil buffer in hardware only if you are using 32bit, otherwise it is emulated in software, which is pretty slow.

My drivers are really old (from 1998) but new drivers don''t run properly on the card. The vendor of it is VideoExcel, but I couldn''t already find their website.
I''m just displaying a milkshape file, for example an extracted HalfLife model. Is it normal that he stencil buffer slows the games so heaviliy down (form 15 to 1-2) or has my card a bad OGL (Stencil Buffer) support?

Sorry, I posted the same 2 times.
My game was always running in 32 bpp. In 16 bpp it is even slower .

Well, at this point, I''m actually starting to think that it may just be your video card that is at fault. Yes, the stencil buffer isn''t always slow, but some cards make it that way. You might want to try out your program on some else''s computer (or upload it?) and if it is not too slow on their card, think about upgrading your video card (Geforce 2 MX is $80 now, I''m going to try to get one soon ).
