Can somebody recommend any good books on Sound FX composing/creation? I would like to learn about typical workflow/pipeline, different techniques, etc. Thanks in advance.

Pick up a copy of The Complete Guide to Game Audio by Aaron Marks. It's a few years old now, so some of the technical notes regarding computers are somewhat dated. However, the techniques for workflow and general creation are still pretty solid. The book covers a lot of different topics, so it doesn't have space to really specialize in sound effects. It's a good platform to jump off from, though.

Aaron Marks book is great, but there is not a huge amount of information on the process of designing sound effects

It is probably the best book I have read about the subject though.
I would also like to find out if there are any other books available on this subject, there are various websites with this sort of information, but book form would be better :)
thank you guys for advice, but it seems like book doesn't have useful information on the subject.
How about those books:

Have you heard about them?

Hmm, I followed both links and they sent me to the same book. I've actually thumbed through that one, as luck would have it. The book mainly deals with business planning, workflow, and programming. No real abundance of information about the actual nitty gritty business of recording sound effects and doing post production.

They're the same book because they're the same hyperlink.

My bad, I was at work when I was posting, so I guess when you trying to do something quick than has nothing to do with your work, you get messed up sometimes ;)

I fixed the link in my previous post and just in case here it is:
http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Man-Game-Audio-Goodness/dp/1592730094/sr=1-4/qid=1172026229/ref=sr_1_4/104-1319762-0390319?ie=UTF8&s=books

I've also read the Fat Man's book. It has a small handful of tips and tricks for recording sound effects, but the vast majority of the book deals with business models, philosophy of audio in games versus film, funny anecdotes from his career, and good ol' boy wisdom.

It's a fun read, but yet again, I wouldn't recommend spending money on it since you're looking for a specialty book about recording sound effects.

Sorry if I seem like the guy who's shooting down all your ideas, but in this instance I'm just trying to save you money. :)

:) I understand that. Thanks.
It seems like topic is not really covered in the books :( Gotta go trial and error way again. I found few tutorials and articles online, but book is always handier ;)

Yes the Fat Man's book is mainly annecdotes, it's not really a guide to sound design.

Another good source for this type of thing is extras on DVDs, sometimes they interview the sound designers and you can find out about foley and effects creation from movies :)
