MIDI / can i make music with my keyboard?
Is there a program were i can program my keyboard to different instruments (ex:drums) and record in real time? thanks
Tyler
There are tons!
I'm assuming you're new to this stuff (which is fine) so I'll point out a free program and then also tell you about some programs that cost money.
Anvil Studio is a free MIDI program that you can select different tracks, record yourself in realtime and playback. It uses standard MIDI, so it isn't going to sound great but hey....its free.
Also almost all major sequencers do this- let me take that back....ALL sequencers do this.
Logic, Cakewalk Sonar, Reason, Cubasis: they will all record MIDI. If you're wanting realistic sounds, you'll have to use external sound libraries (and these can get expensive). East West is the one I use the most and they have GREAT sounding stuff! The best part about these samples is you can write in MIDI, edit and then select your patches. Mix it down and there you go.
If you have any more questions, ask!

I have downloaded the Anvil Studio. it seems alright but is there a way i can put sounds i already have in it?
I'm not sure what Anvil will allow you to do. I actually don't use Anvil much at all.
What format are the sounds you already have? If you're talking about plugins such as DXi or VSTi then those other major sequencers will definitely let you do that.
If you have captured your own audio samples and what to put those in- there are ways to do that, but it can get complicated. I know for certain that Logic (which is a Mac program) will let you create your own instruments.
There are also other programs such as Battery (from Native Instruments) that allow you to use a drum machine and put your own sounds in and make patterns out of them.
Give me more info and I'll try and help as you much as I can. Or at least point your in the right direction.
Hope that helps,

All the sounds i have are "WAV" files. i want to be able to tell my keyboard that, for example, pressed "a" it would make a Snare drum sound. i dont know how to do it on Anvil. there might be a way but i think i can only use there sounds (which are horrible).

Maybe you need a soft-sampler, and there are good freeware ones in the net (but I never used them... maybe you could check this: SampleTank 2 Free, or if you want to buy something I would suggest VSampler3 as it's easy, user-friendly and quite powerful.
What he also needs is just something that'll allow him to treat his computer keyboard as a MIDI controller. Tyler, you might want to check out these programs. Some are free, some have a 30 day limit, then afterwards you can purchase for a small amount. I've never used any of these since I prefer using my controller (plus I never got used to using my keyboard as a controller), but you might find these useful:
Proxima Controller
Virtual MIDI Controller
