Hey DarkMortar, I have a question.

I saw in your last post that you have the Logitech THX Z-5300e 5.1 speakers. I just picked up those exact speakers recently, and I'm shopping around for a soundcard to go with them. You said you have the Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic card. From all the looking around I've done, all the X-Fi cards have 7.1 outputs. Are there any issues with connecting 5.1 speakers into a 7.1 card? Obviously I'd just have a couple of jacks that I don't plug into, but is there any appreciable loss of sound or other issues? Thanks.

There is absolutely no loss to conntecting 5.1 speakers to a 7.1 soundcard. The 7.1 sound card just supports up to 7.1 speaker. You will just leave an extra jack empty. And the upgrade is worth it, comming from a Live! user.

Cool! X-Fi it is. Thanks for the help.

Isn't the X-Fi a bit limited on inputs though? It seemed that way when I checked a few weeks back.
Well, I don't do any live recording so far. I just use orchestral VST's synced up to a desktop sequencer. At most I'll be hooking up a single microphone in the future if I want to record my cello or some percussion.

DarkMortar, Jeremy Soule did not use GPO w/ KOTOR. Soule uses Garritan Orchestral Strings which is a dedicated string library that is more expensive than GPO, requires GigaStudio to use, and is generally a much higher end product. He also has numerous other orchestral libraries at his disposal.

QUOTE "Ugh, don't TOUCH Logic. It's awful. I prefer Pro Tools over Logic any day--Logic is badly designed, has a stupid interface, and it's far too complicated. Pro Tools is comparitively straightforward, and has been around much longer.

And I love Reason for sampling and synthesis. Check out the 2-Channel EQ if you want filters. Also, you can use the filter banks on the Malstrom as insert effects."

-As a rabid logic user for the past 2 years, having switched from reason, I wholeheartedly disagree. The best part about logic is that you can set it up however you want, 100% customizable. The reason many people hate logic (what a bizzare sounding statement) is because they never get past the default autoload, and never get around to setting up the environment around what they want / need to work with. Also you need like 3 monitors. :)
