Forbidden Woods -Work In Progress
Hey guys,
I was thinking of places to get this track reviewed (thus far) and I thought hey why not this place lol. As the title says it's a work in progress. I didn't go in depth with the mix yet so some things may sound a bit off so forgive me. The track was made to be used in a forest or woods like setting where the sun is peeping through the trees. Hope you guys like what I've done with it so far. Also if you can give me any heads up that I should look out for when I do start mixing let me know. This track is basically for my website under the category game production so people who are interested in me can see my versatility. As far as what was used:
Sequencing:
Nuendo 3
Orchestra:
East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Gold
Vienna Solo Strings: Violin
Other:
Patches from the Yamaha S08 and the Korg Triton LE ran through:
Mackie Onyx 1220 Mixer

I really liked it. The bass is very rich, and seems to add a real nice depth to the piece.
That amazing i realy liked it, You think you can tell me how to make music like this im kinda a newbie.
Really good work, you have talent. I have to agree with the comment above about the bass, adds a depth of feeling that really sets the mood of the music.
Thanx guys.
I know theres a few things funky with the mix but then again no heavy mix has been done to it yet so np. I'll post again when the piece is done. Out of all places I really wanted a response from this place. Thanks guys :)
DMP Send me a PM and we can discuss. Like what do you want to know?

Wow, this is a fantastic piece of work! I am usually pretty critical about other people's work, but I am not qualified to criticise this at all. Should be in a movie. Fan-Freaking-Tastic!
BTW, I wish I could mix things as well... boy! That's not the final mix!?

Thanx ddt,
No it's not the final mix. There are still a few things that need to be attenuated and adjusted. But least I now have a great reference piece so when I start the heavy mix I know where to stay lol.

This sounds really great. I like the rhythm, and the bass does wonders to the feel of it... not to mention the mixing of piano with what sounds like Xylophone or something, giving it a sweet sound.
But since it's a work in progress, I can point out things, right? :)
Just two things; first, right at 0:55, this strange bell-type instrument begins, and it sounds a bit strange. Personally, I think that part does fine without it, and even lifts you a bit higher with just the normal instruments going, at 1:01.
The other thing; I'm not too sure about the slow-downs that begin at 0:25 and 1:25. I think they seem to dip too lowly, if you know what I mean. Some kind of slow-down that maintains more of the natural flow of the song might sound better, I think.
Just my 2 cents. :) I think this is an excellent song. I've been listening to it while I work.

I really liked it. It sounded a lot like it came from Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, which is one of the best sounding games I've played. I think I'd like it if you used a different, but similar instrument in place of the piano part, though. It sounded nice as a piano, but in some places it didn't seem like quite the right instrument. That's just my humble opinion, though.
Dig everything except the piano. And not the piano line, just the piano patch. Sounds like it was played in with a synth or non-weighted keyboard which truly loses some of the dynamics of a true piano performance. Consider finding a full weighted keyboard to finalize the piano part or find a real piano, because that I think is the only thing holding back this amazing piece you have constructed! Nice use of woodwinds!
