Hey i want to program a hotel manager game for my little sisters (16 years) birthday´! It should be 2D and you control one Hotel wich you inhereted and must be renovated first (you can choose style of furnishings which connects with overall style of the hotel = quality) So what can you do as hotel manager: - regulate prices, advertisement, employees - regulate how often the rooms get cleaned - decorate the rooms with different styles - regulate kitchen food (prices, menues, a expensive/cheap cook) - special events in a special event room - banking, stockmarket any more ideas which could be fun?
What about keeping the guests happy? Like in the original theme park, have classes of guests (poor students, middle-aged family, rich executives, etc) you then have to tailor your hotel to attract these people in different amounts and keep them happy as time goes on. For example, the Executive demand higher quality furnishings, which in turn are more expensive, which means you have to charge more to stay there, which means the poorer groups can't visit your hotel which in turn makes it more exclusive, which in turn attracts more executives, etc.

More importantly than making the guests happy, is my suggestion of catering to the guests' needs. Have you seen Four Rooms? In the movie, the protagonist is responsible for catering to insane witches, a twisted-fetish couple, an arrogant rich man and his belligerent children, and a group of drunken movie stars.

If a hotel management game occasionally threw curveballs at the player like these, and awarded or penalized accordingly, it would seriously make the player think about the "special needs" of some extreme examples of bad customers.
