Can someone please direct me to any resources/books on how to design the hardware architecture of a business? What I am interested in is solutions for integrating CMS with Middle tier and Back end expecting to delivery a very large number of transactions. This system should follow one that is used in the financial sector. Thanks for your help.
Have you considered the possibility that a forum on GAME DEVELOPMENT is not the best place to look for information on business server infrastructure?
"Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.".....V

Well, whatever you end up with just make sure that you have redundant falangees in case of failure.

Hi joanusdmentia, do online games not need any type of infrastructure?

Anyone with any idea on hardware infrastructure design?
Every system will be spec'd according to the requirements, largely determined by the software setup.

Some systems for example, use shared storage for failover of database servers, but others don't. Some use specialised networking (e.g. SANs), others don't.

Older banking systems also use non-IP networks. This is something that most financial systems don't need to worry about because they use gateways from (e.g.) their PSPs which are all IP-based.

Hardware is generally the least of anyone's concern if they are really building something this big. It can get expensive, but I can guarantee that hiring the people to support it and buying / developing the software to run on it will be also. If you have the kind of money to afford these sorts of things, you can probably afford to hire someone who will tell you what to do rather than posting on gamedev.net.

Of course they do, but looking for a setup like that in the financial sector suggests some sort of payment system, which is not a game (regardless of whether or not that payment system is for a game). My point is that while there might be some people who have had exposure what you're after, this isn't the best place to be asking.
