Well, we dont want grabbing and biting a player to be that easy. By establishing a somewhat difficult mini-game, this will ensure difficulty for biting a player, and will require skill to do so.
Still, I can see your point as to how it could be considered over-complicated. What are some other opinions?

If i got this right, if the zombie misses the bite, play is resumed as usual, right?
Be sure to make it a doubel edge knife them... if the zombie misses the bit he may fall down or be "stunned" for a second or two.. enough time to take some bullets in the head...
this enforces a more strategic aproach to bitting... as you should try to just bite anyone and everyone
Also, you can try something likea button mash.. Zombies presses the space button several times to try and bite, and humans press the space button several times to break free...
