It takes a lot of patience, practice, and perseverance. I have been writing music for 10 years now, and have been writing nearly everyday of those 10 years. I don't know anyone who has just had incredible success instantly.

Welcome Rob :)

You are a rare case, normally starting composers have some good ideas and sucky audio quality.

You are kind of the reverse, I mean, you audio quality is already good and the composition is not bad but I find myself loosing atention middle way from the end.

When you compose a music you should try to increase its end all the time. Listen to examples.

"Orchestral/Rock Fusion Theme" is a bit low on strings sound, and don't use roland piano sound, it sucks! Use Yamaha P-250 Sound or use a good sample library for the piano, never the outdated roland. Also in this theme your musical ideas seem to loose interest before the music ends.

I liked the first tune although it has a chord progression at 0:48 that doesn't feels right for an oriental like tune. I mean in you have Cmaj | F- | Cmaj | Gmaj | Cmaj the classical IV - I - V - I.

Try to make it like Cmaj | F- | Cmaj | G- | Cmaj and it will sound much more filme/game score-like.

Maybe you will agree with me.

Also all your melodies sugested you were in a Phrygian melodic minor mode and that progression you made destroyed everything, sounding like a normal Jonian mode.

Anyways welcome to this forum, I hope we can help you somehow :)

'allo there, welcome to the board. Quite alot of cool people here, though it's not a terribly active forum. You are perfectly correct that it's an extremely competitive and overcrowded field, which is why I am not seriously considering it as a job opportunity. However when it comes to me and my music I suffer from lack of ambition, laziness, poor self-esteem, among a variety of other things lol. So definitely don't take my attitude to heart.

Good luck finding some work!
Interesting. My self critiques are in fact the opposite. I'm not a technician so I would think that my production skills would be lacking as opposed to compositional. I have a pretty firm belief in my compositional chops (which isn't to say I think I'm perfect), so let me counter your comments, which of course I took in good faith; I understand your intent is to help.

Piano sound: It isn't a roland piano. It's from edirol's HQ orchestral library. I'm sure there are better piano sounds, but there is always better gear.

On chord progressions, scale choices etc.

Sure, to you, a certain chord progression might sound better, but I would disagree that just inserting a Gmin chord suddenly makes something more "film score like."

On compositional interest:

This is just a subjective matter here. I quite like how the Orchestral/Rock Fusion Theme ends, and I just generally don't agree with the assessment of my ideas losing interest over time in the demo pieces. I'll think about what you said as I continue to write, however.
