the view ports are the different angles of your model

Yea i just figuerd out that i draw on them thats much much differnt then blender =)

I havent used it, but I hear sketchup is a good environment modelling program, based on sketching your layout and extruding details. Could be worth a look, saw some cool demo vids a while back

edit: I say environment, I think its best suited to urban areas, buildings etc, architecture

Choose any program, and buy a book.
You're not going to learn without working at it, that's a lesson for everything.

Well that kind of gets rid of the whole "Free" thing about Blender, doesn't it...
