Super Mario Brothers 3 remake
*Images will be loaded soon* Would you be interested in a flash-based SMB3 remake. The file will also come with an editor that you can create your own levels. I'm asking because, after mulling over many game ideas such as random quests/levels and programmable npcs and such, I'm relying on the philosophy of "less is more". I think a simple game that a user can pick up and play and create levels with will be fun. After all, if there was a game that was unbelievably fun, I would be playing it now. While eye candy and functionality has risen in games, the fun factor has hardly budged since the days of pong and pacman. THose games, for me, has been just as if not more addictive than Grand theft auto 3 and oblivion. So, I'd like to make a flash editor for SMB3. My questions are 1. What would you want to see different about in the flash remake? 2. Would you like to help any idea is welcome.
2. I hardly have any game programming skill.
1. I would like to see a SMB3-like game but with more options and powerup (which leads to, if done right, more/better gameplay). new graphics, new characters. no direct rehashes [smile]
hope for the best!

cooperative 2-player, an energy bar, bumping into an enemy without losing powers or losing energy. you know stuff like that.
well let me ask you this. Would you be interested in a cross between Mario 3, Metroid, and Megaman? What other games if so? Link? Zelda?
I want to see a megaman/dragon warrior combo. on second thought, that is a bad idea.
sim city/ megaman/ zelda. wait that was act raiser.

One of the reasons why old console games are so great are the simple, responsive controls. I've never played a keyboard based platformer that came close to the control accuracy you get with a gamepad.
Just seems counter-intuitive to use Flash to try and improve a game like SMB3

You can embed a flash player into a Windows Application (it's a COM object), thus taking advantage of its features like the vector graphics engine and action script, while still using DirectInput/SDL/Win32 for input, doesnt have to be browser based.

you know. i never understood that concept. a former god comes back to claim his world/kingdom/place he used to control and he's suddenly getting smacked around by his enemy's underlings like some $2 whore. it irritates me. (by the way i loved that game [grin])
you said SMB3 then do SMB. if you want to do Megaman then do MM. but please don't start mixing and matching games. it's not good. especially if you're a game development novice. (notice i didn't say novice programmer or designer).
I don't know if its just me, but I loved the original SMB3. If anything changed in the game, i would be really dissapointed. I would say make a remake of the game and keep it as close to real as possible. Maybe change the graphics but keep the gameplay. Many people out there probably never played the original game, so why should you make a different one. One other thing that would be nice would be to save the game so you wouldnt have to start all over if the power went out ;)
But if you do want to change it, i would just make different levels but keep the base of the gameplay the same.
