Quote:Its certainly possible to track viewing data but only if you have the time and money to create such a system and a way to get the info from the game to your server. With an online like this they have the budget plus the users are online all the time that they play. It is quite a bit harder if it is a casual game that can be played offline.

In this 3D MMORPG you see advertises in the game. People found out that they actually see how long someone is looking onto a special adertising and from which direction etc. Here is the proof that it is possible :)
....I think it is easier to make a game and insert the advertisings later. Since i dont think that companys will pay you, just for the case that you say that you will produce a AAA Game within the next 2 years.

trig's original post has stuck in my mind as I've been reading the game industry news this past week, about new forays into in-game advertising.
But to post a late reply to the original question: No. A triple-A game can't be funded solely by one advertiser. It's just too expensive, with not enough guarantee of a return, it takes too long to make the game, and the product would be instantly known among the game playing community as an expensive advergame. Players would rebel against paying full triple-A price for it, knowing that it'd involve advertising for a particular brand.
It might possibly be feasible to have multiple sponsors for a game. But the game might not be triple-A. (Is there such a thing as a double-A or single-A game?)
trig, have you ever been to a game conference? Lots of advergame companies attend and give talks, and you can meet them to explore ways of getting involved in the business. Also, at E3 they set up booths or at least meeting rooms, and you can meet them there too.
Good luck,
Tom
