Hi everyone, Just wondering if i could get a bit of advice. I currently have 1 years worth of experience as a gamesteam programmer. Have worked on 3 cross platform titles that have shipped and one that is about to - fingers crossed. I was on a probationary student contract for the year and have been asked if i could stay on and work full time. The company however, offered me the same amount of cash as my last contract. What would the the range be that i should negotiate for? Cheers
snow, read the salary survey - it's at http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20040211/olsen_01.shtml

And it sounds to me like you've had very little actual experience, so you probably don't have a lot of negotiating power here. How about taking the job, working really hard and well so they will see your value and give you raises as time goes by...

Cheers

many times the "raises" later on take the form of "taking a different job somewhere else after a couple/few years"

nothing wrong with that, just the way things are.

Get off my lawn!

Well ive worked hard for a year on less than minimum wage, so i just want to earn my worth - nothing overly exuberant. The actual experience ive had is well, 1 year. I dream of those salaries in the suvery lol.
There are a lot of things to factor in. Where is the company located? Do you think you can get a better offer someplace else? Is the game you will be working and people you will work with the ones you want. If you have a year of experience it might be time to shop around.
Don't shoot! I'm with the science team.....
