PCI IDE Cards

'Lo all, I'm needing to add a PCI IDE card to my server to allow for more harddrives, however from various reviews of cards I've seen on the net, a lot of them can be really arsy with linux. So, does anyone have any recommendations on cards, preferably not more than about £50? RAID support isn't particularly important to me at the moment, as I can't afford to have the storage capacity and RAID at the moment. Just for info, I'm using Debian, Kernel 2.6.8 (tried to upgrade to 2.6.16 - but a dependant module upgrade failed)...

Hi,

Some of the HighPoint controllers are well supported under Linux. Check out: http://www.highpoint-tech.com/

I currently use one of their 4 channel RocketRAID controllers (not using the RAID features however) and it works well. Not sure how much they cost these days but I'm sure they will have one that fits your budget (try http://www.overclockers.co.uk).

Are you sure you want IDE, not SATA?

Well, I'm not too bothered in all fairness, transfer isn't too much of a problem as it's going to be for data storage anyway. Plus, my PSU doesn't have SATA power connectors, so I'd have to get molex->SATA converters and stuff. = Effort.
