Favorite flavor of UNIX?

Linux 2.6.15 on this PC, x86 kernel, although I run an AMD64. Still waiting on some of the x86_64 stuff to mature a little before jumping into the 64 bit world.

Got all the kernel's preemptive options enabled and the timer at 1000Hz since I'm doing audio work on here. I don't like latency, pretty noticable if you start processing audio in real time, with tiny buffers [smile].

That's my take as well. At the very least I need a 64bit flash version. I don't want to bother setting up a 32bit chroot in a 64bit OS just so I can run my webbrowser in there. I'm sticking with K7 kernels until then.

I don't think any pure UNIXes exist anymore, but I am a big fan of the L4 microkernel. It's making big advances, and there are already some desktop *nix projects using it (and I think GNU HURD is transitioning to it in addition to Mach soon).
HURD has also been more recently looking at Coyotos as well. Of course there's an idiotic argument going back and forth, the details of which I don't care to go into, that may screw the deal.

Not that anyone gives a damn what HURD does anyway.

You got a long wait if you are waiting on flash. They aren't doing it for Linux anymore, so you'll be waiting on the open source one to catch up.

Either that, or untill they figure out a way to run 32bit applications or plugins in a 64bit enviroment (no chrooting).

You can run 32bit applications in a 64bit environment. Depends if you compile support for it into your kernel.

What? I thought that they did "just" skip 8.0 and focus on the 8.5 version for Linux? And OSS flashplayer?

Edit:
Googled for "Open Source Flash player" and found it.

Lets hope they compile for 64 bit aswell.
