RPG Era settings
A vast, vast majority of the RPG's I've ever played are based in high fantasy, in relms very reminisant of medieval Europe. I was wondering if there are in exsistance RPG's that place you in the era's more along the lines of the bronze age (such as ancient Greece/Minoan cultures) or Iron age (Like early to mid roman republic, and Elder Scrolls dosn't count) or even more radical, the stone age (early tribal villages or even cave communities.) A friend of mine and I where considering doing design writing for such RPG's (we where leaning more twords the stone age) and was wondering whats out there for reference in games. Also, if you cannot think of any, I'd like your personal feedback about these era's as well, and what you think of having an RPG set in that age would be like.
It's tough for many gamers and fantasy fans to imagine worlds that deviate from the "Bright Blade of Justice" knights-in-armor Tolkien ripoff standard. All the thees and thous and forasmuches are part of the LARPing dorkitude that defines the genre.
But if people would put down their LotR and pick up a copy of The Iliad, I think they'd find that Homer's vision of the Mediterranean is way more conducive to stat grinding and mob hunting and quest completing than Tolkien's Middle Earth ever was. I think you should go nuts and try to design a good game set in such an environment.
Isn't there some Gauntlet/Diablo type game set in Egypt? Titan something-or-other, maybe?

Diablo II uses many settings, from South America, Africa to Northern Europe (architecture and mythology). Baal, Mephisto and Diablo are burrowed from different cultures.
