How to keep consistant style and colour
My project is very 2D intensive, and i have a small team of artist. I am having 2 problems right now, and will very greatly appreciate if anyone could give any advice. First is in the drawing style. Anyone know how does game or comic developers keep the drawing style consistant between different individuals, and between different types of objects (i.e. organic objects, and man-made objects)? Right now, our assets all look pretty good, however, it seem to lack a consistant feel to the style. Second, is with the colouring scheme of the assets. How does one keep the colour scheme consistant? Do you guys work by first defining a limited colour range, or having a few basic rule on choice of colour, or by feeling, where after it is coloured, someone dictates the changes required to the colour? Or is it all of the above, or none of the above? (Feels like a multiple choice question...:P) If it's any of the above, how do you guys create the colour range in the first place, or what kind of rules are used? Appreciate any advice or comments given. Thanks
Keeping the style and color the same is pretty hard, even if you're doing it yourself. I myself have trouble with that. My recommendation is to have a default template for everything. Seeing that your game is mostly in 2d, you should have a template for each of your character sprites.
My default for a regular male, for example, is this.
As for color, I find it easiest to pick out a specific hue of each major colors and use that as the base for other colors.
Another way you can control style differences is to put each artist at only one job. One artist, for example, only draws the sprites, while another draws the images of items.
I'm not sure how the pros do it, but that's how I keep track of my art.

Do what animation houses do, have one or two artists do the 'key' drawings, and then other people draw the in between frames. So perhaps one artist draws a front/side view of each sprite, then other artists draw the rest. Similar to the recommendation above, but helps if you have a range of talent.

Have an artist create a set of color prototype images that the other artists use for reference. The artists should be able to match the style and colors.
The previous posters were essentially correct. Generally, an art director or some form of senior artist will create an extensive style template for the entire project which all of illustrators/animators adhere to.
For your purposes, the key is to be as comprehensive as possible if you don't want personal artistic liberty sending your overall visuals into a tangent.
