I would like to know what game genres you would like to see more of. This focuses mostly on things like the game's system (e.g. RPG, FPS, RTS, Adventure etc) but story types will do too. Please post some you would like to see more of or at least done better and why.

The world needs more turn-based beat-em-ups.

I could go for some more turn-based strategy games, there seems to be a lack of new professional titles in that genre lately.

Im actualy very impressed that TBS has been the genre so far. I have been toying with "Heroes of Might and Magic 4" as of late and it has enspiored me to work on a TBS game set in a sci-fi setting. I saw your post earlier Sir Sapo on missions and i even posted a few, hope they helped.

Of course all i can do is design, without a team it wont be going to far in development.

I would agree Turn Based Strategy is far and few, i think they would be a great deal more inpressive if they were a little faster pace for the speed heads of today.

I would also like to add that Action RPGs are a great genre that i would like to see more of.

I'd like to see more games that aren't afraid of legitimately "adult" themes and don't earn an honorary "Mature" rating with blood and boobs. I have no idea what sort of video game could satisfy this desire.

Also, I want a good RPG that doesn't have a single elf or enchanted sword in it. That would be super-duper.
A mature game that is not boobs and blood... could be achieved by having a game that deals with subjects which might be scary or even frustrating to the gamers. More or less, something that induced a deep 'negative' feeling and touch sensitive subjects.

I want more games that do not look like anything else I have played before.

Sorry, that was me. Thought I logged in.
Well-written RPGs with a focus on story and character development, and with minimal random encounters or other meaningless repetitive gameplay. For bonus points, divide them into "chapters" designed to be played in a single sitting, i.e., 1-2 hours.

Alternately, games with more interesting (than RPG) gameplay -- puzzle games, platformers, whatever -- in which the gameplay is interspersed with chunks of story. Interesting, well-written story.

I would like to see FPS games be a little more creative and artistic. Most seem to be going solely for a shoot-em-up theme (as they should, since FPS's are good for that), but claim to be more than that. For instance, the Call of Duty series is not what they say it is. They deliver 'cinematic' experiences drawn from cinematic influences and really don't have much story or point to them except slaughtering waves of Nazis. FPS games have evolved tremendously since Wolfenstein 3D, yet they still adopt the same Nazi-wave-slaughtering principles.

Ultimately, I want to see FPS games that put more emphasis on story and even containing some underlying morals. The Half-Life series delivers this to a degree. However, what I have in mind though when referring to FPS's are war simulations. They can still contain the shoot-em-up elements for those who want them (hell, even I enjoy it), but still contain a good story and ability for more of a realistic and immersive experience.

Scalability of realism is the key. I want to be able to experience not what some developers think of what war is based on what they see on TV... but ultimately, what it is -- there are plenty of sources out there, other than film.

The main problem though is appealing to the mass market. Games target to the mass market, which makes money. But they really aren't targeting everyone (since 'everyone' isn't the 'mass market'), which I think maybe they should take some steps towards. With the way games are today, with character development, realistic worlds, physics engines, etc. there still is a lack of effective use to deliver storylines that could be considered 'brilliant.'
I would like to see more turn based strategy games because there doesn't seem to be many coming at the moment.

The other I would really like to see is tactical rpgs (final fantasy tactics, fire emblem) for the pc because for some reason no one seems to be create these types of games for the pc. The closet things seem to be squad based rtss with rpg elements.
