A service we'd like to offer.....
I'd like the groups' thoughts on a service I'd like to offer at TextureBin.com - we have a bunch of ideas to really make TextureBin.com the "go to" texture resource, and we're slowly implementing them as time permits, but I want to offer a service to game designers and developers to create unique texture packs for your games - basically you would contract us to lets say, create 100 unique textures for your game to use in level design, as backgrounds, etc... Do you think there is a need for that out there? if you were developing a new game, a mod, or even a level, and had a company that could develop the textures you need as per your specifications, especially those mundane terrain textures, interior textures, signage, bloody hand prints, etc.... would it free you as game designers up to be able to concentrate on the "meat & Potatoes" of the game - like modeling, programming, scripting, error checking, etc... which brings up another potential service - modeling those mundane "cheap fillers" you see all over the place in levels, boxes, crates, plates of food, pots and pans, debris, trash, and of course the kitchen sink (sitting broken on the side of the road) etc... If you have a few minutes, please share with me your thoughts.... Thank You!! -Jeff Martin

My feeling is that if the game is stylized at all and not aiming for photorealism, it'll be hard to get a cohesive look without the oversight of the project's Art Director. I myself wouldn't be interested, but smaller projects who experience a shortage of artists and aren't worried much about aethetic quality may be interested.

Most developers probably wouldn't use it unless you would be doing all of the textures for the game, to keep the graphics consistent.

That would be ideal for us as well, to get some concept or reference art from the art director and develop a whole texture package around the look and feel the company has in mind. Just like color correction in a movie for example, if the customer wanted a cooler look or a warmer look, a clean - sterile look or a dingy weather beaten look, what ever vision or "look" the company and/or art director is trying to attain, we could develop a completely unique texture package for the entire project, and this would, as you said, keep the graphics consistent.
