selling your game
Hey guys, I've got a game near completion which im intrested in selling. I'd like to get it on steam, but like all companies are hard to get in contact with.
Has any one here sold thier own game and how have they gone about it? Advertising, payment methods, distribution etc..
For Morning's Wrath we have a manufacturer for the boxed versions. They get a percent of the money for those who buy the boxed game. Then we have a downloadable version of the game which EDI gets all the money. I advertised by sending PRs to every gaming website that I could find. I also posted threads on forums. I asked websites to do reviews of the game as well as interviews with the staff. Right now we're looking for distributors who will sell the game.

how have you done online payments? Im currently thinking of using paypal.
and who does your boxed versions?
can you give me a rough estimate of what percent they get for boxed version.
And maybe a ball park figure of how many copies youve sold boxes and online?
thanks,
Fabian

You're better off using some kind of soft-wrap system; they usually include a basic DRM package as well.
We use RegNow in conjunction with SoftwarePassport DRM package. It probably won't keep away a dedicated hacker, but at least it stops buddy-copying, handles the 60 minutes play limit we're enforcing, and doesn't require me to do anything too complex.
Good luck,
Allan

MRW Connected is the manufacturer http://www.mrwconnected.com/
They created our secure store. For other projects I have used paypal and it works just as fine. MRW only takes a percent from the boxed versions that are sold. I think it is $10-15 but I'm not 100% sure. They are very helpful though and are willing to do sales and such.
We've sold about 100 copies in 4 months, the majority of which were downloaded. The main reason why they were downloaded is because it's a $10 difference in cost.
