Tales of Blahinhadia

Why does it matter WHAT the name is?
half-life, not much of a title when you think about it. Our great MIT grad is nothing more than a cart pusher. Oh look, are doing the job a handfull of random parts out of RadioShack could do for the cost of a single day's wages.

Sure, lots of lame titles out there, but lots of games that are worse than the titles. Didn't anyone ever teach you to not judge a book by its cover? why judge a game just by its title?

If the setting of the game is in the vast land of Blahinhadia, why not use that in the title? How is that any worse than D&D?

EVE is named after the galaxy in which it is set, which is one of the listed cliches. It is terrific, also.

Obviously, you're not going to take a good name and assume it'll make a crap game fantastic. But if you have a good game, and you give it a boring name, it won't catch people's attention as much. The name is the first thing people will know about when your game is launched, if you don't care about what that name is how is anybody else supposed to.

Check out my new game Smash and Dash at:

my projects are called "project1" or "noname00" or whatever the IDE gives an default unnamed project :)

actually finding a perfect name is very hard.
Often I start playing an RPG, I set all the character features but then I get stuck choosing a good name. Or I know how to program something but Im stuck at giving a good name to the function.
But is it realy that importent? unless you have a brilliant plot for an RPG whats the point of having a perfect name? and most RPGs have the classic plot of some super evil is building an army and you alone must defeat it, so a cheesy name isnt ruining much.

And if you have an excellent plot with a cheesy name, I can forgive that.

I'm naming my RPG

Sword: Legend of The Fallen Heroes of the Dragon Cult of D&D

It's sure to be a winner!

:)

and "dark" and "war" to it and you've got a best seller :)

I created a (never-finished) game in the past called Worlds of War and said "hey the acronym is WoW...isn't that neat and commercial"
then World of Warcraft came up...

... not if you call it stinkblossom. Or fartweed.

Radiata Stories
Final Fantasy
Star Ocean
Drakengard
Shadow Hearts
Kingdom Hearts
Fable
Brave Fencer Mushashi

(These are just the ones I play....bit of a Square fanboy here...)
Originality is dead.
Shadowbane doesn't have a "the" or "of" (or atleast no one calls it something of shadowbane)
Ragnarok
Helbreath
Fung Wan Online
Runescape (well, technically)

Baldur's Gate (we're talking about RPG right?)
Planescape
Icewind Dale

does Fallout count?
