i like games where random killings take place as much as the next person, but something like that would turn me off. not because of the pointless killings, or nudity or anything like that, but from the way it has been presented to me, it looks like a game that would thrive off shock factor. while manhunt had somewhat of a story, it wasnt the greatest of games simply because it relied mostly on shock value. i mean, after you kill someone all 3 ways with an item, you stop saying 'HOLY SHIT!' and start trying to play the game. unfortunately, after you start playing the game, you realize it sorta sucks. hehe.
Serial Killer Game
Quote:I love Manhunt, but I'm inclined to agree. Half way throught the game, I started thinking that the stealth and getting scared when a bunch of guys spot me would be just as effective if we were holding nerf foam ball guns.

Personally, I found Manhunt to be a little too much. The violence was a little to ... violent... I can't think of a better way to describe it. Regardless of my feelings about such violent games, good luck with your game idea. You never know... if you motivated enough like-minded people you could one day play such a game.

I've thought along the same lines of having a serial killer game ever since I played Friday the 13th on NES. I thought it would be cool to go in stealth through the camp and have to take out the people at the camp, instead of trying to defeat Jason as a series of camp counselors protecting kids.
You would have to obey the rules of being Jason, and sneak up on people. You don't go for stealth kills like in stealth games, but you avoid detection until a good moment, and then you burst onto the scene, by kicking down a door or something, and causing fright in a group of victims.
However, in a weird twist, you always lose the game at the end. :) You go down (until next time), and you have to go out the blaze of glory.
I don't think you game you are proposing would be very popular.
I say this because I don't think most people like the idea of killing needlessly deep down.
****MANHUNT SPOILERS****
Take manhunt for example. Sure the game was filled with violent killing from start to finish, but there was more to it than that. You could in certain respects relate to the character you played. How he was being forced into committing these crimes against his will and if he didn't take out the gangs, they would surely take him out. You also had to free people in the game (family members) and even helped a female journalist to uncover this underground murder game the ex-director had created.
****END MANHUNT SPOILERS****
What i'm getting at is that killing without a cause or justification, other than you want to kill people, is not very sellable to the mass public. There has to be a point to your game other than murder even if murder is the only possible means to an end.
