Suggestions for VST DrumKit

Personally, I'm a "Drumkit From Hell Superior" and "Custom & Vintage" fan. They are more expensive than say Drum & Bass rig, and they won't give you a smidgeon of help as far as actually programming drums goes - but together it's over 60GB (!!) of a large number of fantastically sampled drums (some of which are custom or extremely rare, like the Black Beauty snare).
It's only funny 'till someone gets hurt.And then it's just hilarious.Unless it's you.

That was one of the first things I tried. The problem being that I don't need more variations of the same instruments. I need different ones all together. (Most notably, I'm after some very harsh snares and maybe a few more "orchestral" bass drums. Like a timpani.) Maybe it's possible to engineer some sounds out of these samples with a little TLC but I'm not really up to that at this time =)

I checked out the Drum kit from Hell lite. Urrg what a terrible demo. But it has a good bit of praise.

Well, going by the samples from Drum & Bass rig and the overall praise from Drum kit from Hell it's a bit of a toss-up. Any tie breakers that can come along =) Right now I'm still using the free ns_kit. Definitely better than the FPC plug-in.
You don't really need a VST, FL Studio has a built in sampler and beat slicer. You can download or purchase some drum kits/samples/loops from the internet. The sampler is pretty versatile, and with it you should be able to construct entire drum kits out of any samples you want. I recommend using a layer channel, merging the children, then splitting the children. That in turn will allow you to trigger any of the drums in one piano roll view, that of the layer. This is much like when the slicer slices up a beat and each hit goes to a different note in the piano roll. Check the FL Studio help file for more info.

You won't get exactly what you want from a VST's/sampler's hard wired or included sounds. You'll always want to keep building up your library of sounds, and for that you need something that will support it all. I've never used a drum machine for any of my music; I just use the FL Studio sampler and slicer.

I build my drum kits in Kontakt (also from Native Instruments); that seems to work pretty well.
