Im on vacation now and i want to get back developing on my game. I'm at and have been at a standstill for some time now. What I need is some advice on how to proceed, I know rule number one for game deving is that you need to be able to do something other then, have a good idea. Well my idea is pretty good, i've got it all down on paper in a comprehensive design document, but the problem is I'm only a decent programmer, I've programmed everything so far and the games got some decent foundation. Anyways what i want to know is [how] can I still work on my game with only my decent programming skills, i know i can make progress but i dont want to keep during tutorials, i really want to make some progress on my game.

Just make your game, and don't give a shit about how bad the code is. It really works!

On a side note, I don't know of many well-coded OOP games that have been finished, but I know of millions of crappily-coded procedural games that have been finished.

Personally, I find it easiest to learn by doing, or at least while doing. So, if I were you, I'd start working on the game exclusively. Whenever you get to something you don't know how to do, stop and try to figure it out. Tutorials are a heck of a lot more interesting when they're a means to a (specific) end.

You may also want to invest in Code Complete.

But see thats the problem, i did work on my own exclusivly, and i did learn a whole bunch, but im at and have been at this standstill and i dont know what to do.

Just cause im stuck with a certain programming aspect, does that really mean my whole project has to stop??

Sorry, I didn't see realize you were actually stuck on something, as opposed to not working on it because you didn't think you were "ready." And... I dunno. Are there other areas of the project you could be working on, maybe with some kind of placeholder for the bit you're stuck on? Or maybe your energy would be best expended on getting un-stuck... whatever that involves?

Generic advice for a generic question. Feel free to bring some specifics into the discussion.
