Full Sail
So just how good is Full Sail? I am currently in the Navy but was thinking of going to Full Sail when I get out. Is it really all it's hyped up to be or would I be better off going to a traditional college and get a traditional tech degree and just apply it to game development? I've looked at the Full Sail web site and ordered an info pack and looks like a good school to go to, but I wondering if I could get opinions from those who have toured the campus and/or alumni. Thanks.

I can only speak from my own point of view, but I don't have a whole lot of respect for Full Sail. I think that I would hire a CS grad over a Full Sail grad. If it was between someone with a degree in a different field, or someone with no degree at all, then perhaps the Full Sail grad would be competitive.
I can't imagine why someone would want to get a degree in JUST game development. I think that a general CS degree creates a stronger all-around candidate.
That is just my humble opinion, however. I believe there are people out there who have quite a bit more respect for Full Sail then I do.

Hey U235,
A little insight for you on Full Sail.
Full Sail is really nothing more than a diploma mill. My company refuses to hire anyone from There or DeVry's Game Development Program. Both teach their students Useless outdated skills. They do not provide the correct math background, and very little phsysics. Instead they believe working with 3rd party libraries without the knowledge to be suffcient. As ktu said, if your in line for a job, and a CS major is there with you, don't get your hopes to high.
Now ofcourse this is purley subjective, i am sure there are plenty of compaines out there that will hire you. Infact i recall reading a paper about full sail's orientation where someone from from SoE who went to full sail talks about how successful he/she is. (Again some of us would say thats not saying much comming from SoE)
I wish i could say somthing nice about the program, however you will find in general that if you are doing it in hopes of getting a position at a big game development company, or even some of the smaller successful companies, you are going to be very dissapointed.
These "Game Development" Degrees offer exactly that, they offer you how you can make today's game, they say very little about the science behind it, or how to make a better game for tommorow.
My Advice, go into a 4 year university and get your degree in Computer Sciences. Utah has an amazing graphics program if you are interesed in the 3D part of it. FSU has a very good Computer Science department as well. But I would really advise to stay away from anything that is Game Development like.
