I have installed maya everything works apart from a few features such as duplicate, when i open the box to duplicate it opens a blank box with no options anyone an idea to solve this problem?

I'm not sure what you mean by a (blank box with no options)
If your looking to duplicate something select it
holed ctrl then "D" key this should duplicate the box then select
the "W" key and move that box away from the other one.
If its blank like there is no material make sure you
have the right viewport setting like this pic.

I think he means the tool option window, don't know why it would show up empty, especially if it's a clean install with no modifications (new scripts, changed config files etc).
