getting a signal from the redrum in cubase sx
i'm a novice it has to be said with regards to reason and cubase sx. using the re-drum in reason routed to the scream 4 and then via a malstrom synth, i can get some meaty drum beats going, but getting a signal in cubase from this seems harder than i first thought. i'm not sure if i've got the right soundcard or if i'm simply not routing a wire correctly, but it's doin me head in. getting a signal via the synths and samplers is simple, but not through the re-drum,aggghhhhhhh!! i've got fuck all hair left because of this problem!! anybody??
you have to be running Reason in ReWire mode--did you start it up after you started Cubase? Otherwise ReWire will not take control, and you won't be able to control through Cubase. It's not a matter of where you do anything in the Reason rack, you just have to make sure that ReWire is up and running. Or are you trying to send MIDI to Reason from Cubase?
yeah, i'm running it as re-wire. but basically can't get a signal from the re-drum in reason, into cubase, even though i've assigned a channel in cubase for the re-drum. getting a signal from both synths in reason using a midi channel in cubase is no problem, but i just can't get a signal using the re-drum??
Hi there, you should be able to get it to work if you do this:
- Boot up Cubase, open your project,
- Boot up Reason, open your project,
- In Cubase, go to Devices > Rewire, turn Rewire channels 1+2 on (usually called Mix L and Mix R). A stereo channel should appear called 'Mix L + R', under a subgroup called 'ReWire channels'.
- In Reason, as the signal is going Redrum > Scream > Maelstrom, route the output of the Maelstrom to channels 1 and 2 in the very top section (1 and 2 are highlighted by default).
- Get Redrum to make a noise. It should come through to Cubase. If not, get rid of the Scream and the Maelstrom, and go straight from the Redrum into Mix 1 + 2. If that doesn't work, continue pulling your hair out.
To get other things working - say, a Subtractor synth - enable ReWire channel 3, then connect the Subtractor to channel 3 in Reason.
Apologies if that was a little patronising.

not patronising in any way, i've basically done all you said anyway apart from getting the sub groups up which i can't seem to do. i'm looking in 'devices' but there's no icon labelled 'rewire', just 'reason', which is where i've selected the first two channels, these being Mix L/Mix R. i'm not sure if i'm missing a piece of hardware of if i've got the right soundcard even. i seem to be using either ASIO multimedia driver or Direct X full duplex driver, both of which seem to do exactly the same thing.
