Concept art in the industry
Hi! I was wondering.. exactly how long time does one normally get to create the concept art for one character (in my case a game with four characters)? How is the process handled? Thanks!

In the projects I've worked with, there are a couple of approaches, but in both generally a character is assigned to one artist. It's very rare that more than one artist will work on the same character. Assignments are made by the lead artist on the project.
Firstly, the game's original designer may have a very strong concept in mind. In this case the artist will first refine existing sketches into a concept sketch, which is then sent for approval. Subject to approval, production sketches (more detail) are made for modelling from.
Otherwise, there may be a style guide to adhere to where artists produce concept sketches 'in the style of'. These again, are approved before refining into production sketches.

Hmmm.. ok... So how long do you get to come up with some concept sketches?
