I think I'm going crazy trying to figuree this stuff out!!! I started my own dorm-room studio here in college. I'm using my PC to do all of my didgital recording. I recently bought an Audio-technica 3035 condenser Mic, A Yamaha MG12/4 12 imput bus Mixer (to supply phantom power and a Preamp for the mic), the Soundblaster Audigy 4 Pro 7.1 to connect my mixer to my computer. Not to mention the other thousands of dollars between the computer, moniters, headphones, cables, ect... I had been using Cakewalk Pro at my last studio, but I no longer have access to it. Now I'm using Cool Edit Pro 2.0, but I have 1 major problem. I import the beat I want to use onto track 1. I try to designate the other tracks for my vocals, but when I "arm" the other tracks to record and I hit the record button, it doesn't just record from my Mic, but from the first track as well. The Record button from Track 1 isn't on, but it's still recording it to track 2 somehow (Like, it's automatically mixing it down). I need to be able to listen to the beat in my headphones and have JUST my vocals on other lines. Somebody PLEASE HELP ME! Era. PS- Anybody know some other good Recording software out there? I was looking at Cakewalk Sonar 2XL.

I was under the impression that Pro Tools free wouldn't run in 2000/XP?

Era - the problem is that you've got your Soundblaster set to record something other than just the line in (or whatever input your mixer is feeding in to). Basically, your telling it to record the audio on channel one which is why it is doing so!

I don't have a Soundblaster, but someone else should be able to explain it to you. It's probably set to record "what you hear" or something like that.

Anyone?
