Okay my partitions: sda6 is / (root, boot, etc) sda7 is /home I wish to merge the two since sda7 has 800mb free and I don't see a use for it. - Is there anyway I can do this without ANY Corruption to files? I need to do this for a 'yum update' -- which requires 310mb for the packages, leaving my sda6 partition with only 40mb not enuf for the installation... So if I merge the two partitions I'll be okay.

If you can move all the files off one of the partitions, you might be able to delete the empty partition and resize the other. You could use another hard drive you could use to backup one of the partitions, or another computer running NFS.

eliminating sda7 may screw up sda8...
