Basic 3d modeling tutorials! I need help!
I am clueless with modeling. I have all these programs, and I cannot seem to figure out how to make humanoid figures, texture, or even make basic objects. I need some help. Could someone give me a link or something? I have Maya 4, 3ds MAX 5, gmax, Milkshape3d, zmodeller, and anim8or.
2 things:
1. Why do you have all the software if you don't know how to use it? might be wise to delete that which is pirated.
2. Try using blender, it's about the best freeware 3d package there is, or you could use it in combination with wings3d, an excellent closed mesh modeller based on nendo. There are many tutorials and such, and it has a rather large community. If you want to spend some money on a 3d app, I suggest xsi foundation, about the cheapest entry level 3d package that has animation and rendering tools. For just modelling, silo, modo, or eovia hexagon might work for you. Once you have your selected app, look at it's communities for tutorial threads, most places have them, and they list links to tutorials. From there, practice!

Thanks. I have all the tools from past working with other companies. My company has used the tools, and I had to buy them out of my own pocket, so I always get a copy too. I will check out Blender.

Most modern programs (like Maya and the others you listed) have this really nifty thing called the help function. Maya comes with all sorts of neato tutorials that show you how to create objects - surfaces, nurbs splines, solid models, etc and how to even animate them.
That being said, buying a good book or good tutorial DVD would help alot as well. Taking courses at your local college works, too.

are there any more tutorials? I looked at that site and couldn't find the tutorials link.
I actually created that tutorial myself. The site itself is pretty weak (more focused on working on the project than building the website). I made the tutorial as an internal training type of thing, I will have more as time progresses (more complicated models, animation, texturing), but for now that is all I have. Hope someone finds ut usefull!
What were these previous jobs. You dont really sound all that old. I started getting jobs at 16, so I wouldent argue except, no freelance hiring producer is going to provide you expensive boxed copies of major 3d modelling solutions. And I highly doubt you would be allowed to walk out of the building with legal copies of the rest. On top of this no studio I know has more then one type, and you are implying many. This is more then fishy, thats riddiculous. Pirit
