Are my game's mechinics fun?
Hey. Last year I tried my hand at programming a homebrew game for the gba. I am considering porting some of its concepts into a computer game this year. However, I have no idea if there is an audience for this type of thing. So, I humbly request that you give my game a shot and tell me if you like it or not and if you think others would too. (I suggest you play it a little first in freedom mode, then, if you are intrigued read the readme and then play some more:) Its called Fleet of One, you can grab it at http://gbax.com/gbax2005/GBAX2005rr.html its like the 10th game down. If you don't already have a gba emulator, you can grab one here. http://vba.ngemu.com/downloads.shtml Thanks for your comments. You can stop reading here and share if you want, but, after you play it for a while, I thought Id share my ideas of a computer version. -------------READ AFTER PLAYING----------- For the pc version: I would add mouse control, so the further you move the mouse, the longer the bound, and the higher the mouse, the higher the bound. Think I'll call it analog platforming. For the main mode at least, I will focus on something more relaxing. Scrap the rpg elements that force you to pause the game, remove the main bad thing, and possibly have goals involve scoring how close you land on a certain spot, sorta like Dance Dance Revoulution. I was also thinking of having the above mode in a freeware version of the game, and having the more "harcore" stuff in a shareware version, or something. Thanks again!
I don't think it's too bad. But is the character supposed to keep hopping, or am I just having controller / emulator problems? If it's actually programmed into the game, I don't really get it. It makes it a bit annoying when you actually do have to jump and he's already in the air.
I would also recommend adding some POP style wall climbing or such :)
Good job so far :)

Yeah, I tried it and had the same problems jumping, sometimes jump height is too low and I got stuck trying to jump onto ledges.
I think the RPG-type elements are great, although IMO you should have certain places on the map you can upgrade at (instead of always having to pause).
Also, I'm not quite sure what the main objective is, just kept running and running...

oh yea, I guess I forgot to explain the jumpung mechanics in the readme. Oops. If you hold the over button you actualy leave the ground while joging, like in real life. In the readme it is called bounding. If you push the jump button ("z" on the keyboard "a" on the gba) while touching the ground you jump normaly. If you push the jump button in the air you do a double jump.
Basicly bounding is automatic, jumping and double jumping arn't.
Oh and in Normal Mode, your goal is to stay in front of that flying thing, its dicussed in the readme. Freedom Mode is just a toy, it has no point.
That PoP climbing is a good idea ,Kest, thanks. I think may steal that idea :).
Xaver, you might be right about that rpg thing, but i was also thinking of adding classes, so things upgrade automaticly and no pausing, but that might also take some of the fun out. hmmm.
I will definatly spend a good ammount of time on a tutorial if I make the pc version.
Thank for trying, and responding. I could use some more input if you dont mind. Im sorry I wasn't clear, but, if you could just get the feel for it...
